In an attempt to introduce commerce into a less-traveled part of downtown San José, the government decided to build the monstrous “Terminal 7-10” on Avenida 7 and Calle 10. It’s a 3-story bus terminal and shopping center complete with a departure gate, stores and shops of all kinds, and a food court.
The ticket counters for the many bus services that operate out of this terminal are more or less intertwined amongst all the stores and merchandise, but are nonetheless easy to find. If you need to get to Jacó, Montezuma, Santa Teresa, Monteverde, or La Fortuna, just to name a few destinations, then this is the place you need to go.
It’s a short cab ride or longer walk to get there from the hostel:
As you can see, it’s just a block over from the MEPE terminal, which provides bus service to Puerto Viejo, Cahuita, and Manzanillo.
The area is most definitely an “up and coming” neighborhood, so be careful when you walk there. It is NOT RECOMMENDED to leave the station on foot after dark. There is a taxi stop right outside the mall entrance, so getting away from the terminal by car is a cinch.
